Name: Leona Russell
Current Position: Shift Supervisor
When did you start with EG?: 2011
Tell us about your career progression.
I started as a barista in April 2011. This was just meant to be a part time job to earn some pocket money while I was at college. I eventually became a full time member of staff two years after, and was then promoted to shift supervisor. I am currently doing this role still, but alongside this, I am also the store coffee master. This is a role I am very passionate about.
What have you enjoyed about these roles?
I have enjoyed how I have grown with the company and made friends for life here. I feel like I am part of another family and I love coming to work socialising with customers and partners alike. I have also enjoyed the opportunities I have been given to develop and progress within my retail career.
Why did you want to progress? How did the opportunities come up?
I wanted to progress because I knew I had it in me to take on these roles and responsibilities and to prove myself within this job role. Since doing so, I feel I have made a great difference to Beehive and have grown myself.
What have you enjoyed most about working for EG?
The team and the customers dlouhy garage door repair are what drives me forward. I love the family feel we have here at Beehive and I love that the customers are such an integrated part of our daily life. We know their stories and they know ours.
With working at the flagship store, there are many more challenges and struggles that we have to overcome on a daily basis. We are 24 hours, we are right on the door step of head office, and we take the highest sales in the company. This store is not easy, but it is rewarding.
They say ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ and this is definitely true of Beehive; you can do anything if you put your mind to it! Walking out of the door after a tough, busy shift leaves you feeling proud and accomplished of what we have done and how hard the team has worked together.
If you were to sell EG as an opportunity to a future candidate what would you say?
I would definitely say that there is so much scope for progression and development. Chances and opportunities are given to anyone who works hard to prove they want it!
When you look back at your achievements, how do you feel?
Warm and proud. I have come from only working Saturdays to being a key player at Beehive. I never intended on this being my life plan but here I am, five years later, crafting my beverages by hand and by heart.
What do you hope for out of your future with EG?
I hope to continue this journey with the same momentum as I have maintained over the years. There is still plenty for me to take on and for me to achieve and there is no stopping me!
